I don't know the history of this jack. It was in a friend's barn for many years. All I have is what is actually written on the jack itself:J Barrett #29Pat. Mar-12, 1889Ries'D. Dec 31, 1889MFD By The Duff MFG Co. Alleghen PA25 tonsThis is a VERY heavy item--app. 100 lbs. It has a carrying ring on one side. The ring for the other side is missing (these rings were used by two men to carry it). I beleive the "25 tons" refers to the amount this jack will lift. It has a place for a jack handle (missing)used to raise the train car. I'm not sure what to ask for this item--make me an offer!
